About the Role: Head of Operations

We are seeking a Head of Operations with a strong scientific or engineering background to lead and optimise our production, supply chain and design engineering efforts. This role will oversee all physical product creation efforts, and will span across product design, mechanical manufacturing, production, fulfilment and supply chain.

Key Responsibilities

Fulfillment Operations

  • Strategic oversight: Lead fulfilment strategy across outsourced 3PL partners in UK/US and in-house operations in Bulgaria, ensuring order fulfilment under 24 hours with sub-0.25% error rates

  • Automation & efficiency: Introduce automation and packing equipment to increase efficiency and output, leading to system improvements and new tool integrations to optimise operations

  • Commercial integration: Work closely with marketing and sales teams to improve product offerings and enhance customer experience through operational excellence

  • Retail & B2B planning: Plan and execute retail orders, ensuring compliance with retailer requirements, manage logistics for large orders, and oversee complex B2B fulfilment for partnerships

  • Supply planning: Create detailed forward-looking plans to ensure continuous supply and prevent stockouts, coordinating with production and supply chain teams

Supply Chain Management

  • Supplier strategy: Identify and onboard new suppliers to improve costs and environmental considerations, optimising vendor relationships for sustainability and efficiency

  • Inventory strategy: Develop and execute inventory management strategies, ensuring optimal stock levels while minimising carrying costs and preventing stockouts

  • Supplier relations: Manage relationships with key suppliers and logistics partners, ensuring reliable delivery schedules and compliance with company specifications

  • Cost management: Lead cost reduction initiatives across the supply chain, identifying opportunities for efficiency gains and vendor optimisation

  • Risk management: Implement supply chain risk assessment and mitigation strategies to ensure business continuity and resilience

Production Operations

  • Strategic production leadership: Provide strategic direction to the Production & Operations Manager, ensuring alignment with company objectives and quality standards

  • Equipment & infrastructure: Work with our design and mechanical engineers to support the introduction of new equipment in the factory in accordance with ISO13485 and GMP quality standards, and ensure future scalability for growth

  • Production planning: Assist in strategic production planning to ensure adequate supply levels and optimal resource utilisation across product lines

Design Engineering Operations

  • Product development pipeline: Oversee Dayes physical product development strategy and prioritisation, ensuring alignment with company objectives and customer needs

  • Cross-functional collaboration: Facilitate collaboration between design engineering, production, and quality teams to ensure seamless product launches

  • Innovation management: Support material science innovation initiatives and sustainable product development aligned with company values

  • Technical standards: Ensure engineering work meets medical device frameworks, documentation requirements, and quality standards

What You'll Bring

  • Leadership experience: 5+ years in senior operational leadership roles, with experience managing multiple department heads and cross-functional teams

  • Scaling expertise: Proven track record of scaling operations in high-growth environments, preferably in manufacturing or healthcare sectors

  • Industry knowledge: Experience with medical device regulations, quality management systems (ISO13485, GMP), and compliance frameworks

  • Strategic thinking: Strong analytical and strategic planning capabilities with experience in budget management and cost optimisation

  • Communication skills: Exceptional communication and stakeholder management abilities, with experience working in international, multicultural environments

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors or Masters degree in Engineering or Science (Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, or related field).

  • Proven experience in operations, manufacturing, or production management, ideally in healthcare, medtech, or femtech.

  • Strong understanding of QMS, machine validation, and regulatory standards (ISO13485 preferred).

  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage complex projects.

  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, innovative environment and travel as needed.
