About Fung

Fung is a regulated Payment Service Provider (PSP) for Vertical SaaS Platforms. Backed by tier-1 investors, we are a start-up with ambitious goals and a team of payments experts. Our mission is to enable platforms to embed payments seamlessly, handling the end-to-end payments infrastructure, compliance, and risk management for our merchants.

Who we are looking for

We’re searching for a skilled and passionate Site Reliability Engineer to become part of our team and contribute to building the next-generation PSP. In this role, you’ll have the opportunity to lead and drive SRE efforts and have a significant impact on the success of what we’re building and influence on how we build it. This is a new role in our engineering team and whilst we expect you to work very closely with our Product Engineers, you will be the only Site Reliability engineer in the team (until further hiring). The ideal person is a very organized, meticulous and self-starter individual who can easily explain and reconcile infrastructure reliability investments to customer and business value. We prefer in-person interaction to build our team and help each other tackle the challenges we encounter on our day-to-day.

Responsibilities

You will:

  • Lead efforts to ensure our payments infrastructure is highly reliable.

  • Build and maintain systems and applications that enhance the productivity and quality efforts of our engineering team, including deployment infrastructure and similar.

  • Define production standards as code and simplify things for the product engineers.

  • Participate in the on-call rotation.

  • Lead or assist in production incidents, postmortems and subsequent agreed actions.

  • Specify, document and operate Fung engineering playbooks and runbooks, as well as operational development processes.

  • Create, maintain and test our system disaster recovery process.

  • Collaborate with the rest of the engineering team on systems’ specifications and integrations, and also participate in code reviews providing constructive feedback.

  • Learn a ton about payments.

Experience & Skills

You will likely be successful if you:

  • Have meaningful experience building and working on critical systems with very high availability requirements.

  • Have been an early-stage engineer and/or are very comfortable working with early stage ambiguity.

  • Care deeply about software infrastructure being critical to a great user experience.

  • Have a humble attitude and an eagerness to get very hard things accomplished.

  • Have a strong product sense and willingness to own problems end-to-end.

  • You think big but strive for the simplest solutions.

Requirements:

  • Solid proven experience on high availability and high transaction volume systems running on AWS infrastructure, with knowledge of ECS/Fargate, Aurora RDS, DynamoDB, S3 and Eventbridge (among others).

  • Operational knowledge of networking and Linux administration.

  • Experience with monitoring tools like Opentelemetry, Grafana, ELK and PagerDuty.

  • Solid understanding of and proven experience building automation for engineering efficiency.

  • Good knowledge of application security, cybersecurity and information security practices, ideally on platforms with PCI DSS, SOC2 and/or ISO 27001 requirements.

  • (Ideally) familiarity with financial payments and services technologies.

What we offer
  • Impactful Role: An opportunity to have an impact on what we aspire to become the global leading payments platform for Vertical SaaS.

  • Competitive Compensation: Attractive salary, equity, and benefits.

  • Modern Workspace: Office in Pand Noord, Amsterdam North, with support for home office setup.

  • Perks: Personal growth budget, conferences, team events, and daily lunches.

  • 25 holidays per year in addition to bank holidays.

  • Warm lunches at the office.

Recruitment Process:

  • Screening Call (30-45 mins): You will meet one of our founding engineers to get an initial idea of the role and the Fung culture.

  • Technical screen with Engineering (1 hour): A hands-on coding challenge or a systems design discussion to evaluate your problem-solving skills and technical expertise.

  • CTO Interview (1 hour): Meet the CTO to get a feel for how you enjoy working, how you think about building products and how that aligns with Fung’s aspirations.

  • Team Day at Our Office (~ a few hours): gives both you and the team a chance to get to know each other. You’ll see how we work, experience our culture, and decide if this is a place you’d like to be, whilst giving us a better feel for whether this will be a match:

    • Technical Challenge: You’ll spend some time with our product / engineering team discussing a real-example challenge related to your role, giving you insight into what the day-to-day will look like. We will share a brief overview in advance.

    • Lunch with team: Spend time with team members, ask questions, and share your thoughts. Have lunch with the team (on us) and get to know the people you might work with.

    • Compensation: To respect your time and effort, you’ll receive a EUR 100 gift card, regardless of the outcome.
